Tabitha ("Freckles")

Tabitha
Tabitha (Freckles), Summer 2000

I knew my next kitten would have to be "someone special", because Princess left tough tracks to follow. After researching different breeds, I decided that I preferred Devon Rex. Then I started searching my part of the country for a Devon Rex kitten, but I couldn't find any.

Around the time I started seriously hunting for a kitten, hundreds of miles away a family in Los Angeles, CA, adopted Freckles. But, it turned out their dad was allergic to her, so she was put in a foster home. Meanwhile... Several days later I was catching a flight to the Los Angeles area for a family emergency. My mom knew I was looking for a kitten. So, she got online, searched the LA area, and started giving me a list of phone numbers to call. We didn't have much luck until I accidently called Rexellent Cattery. (I say "accidently", because it's nowhere near LA, so I wouldn't have called if I'd know that.) Anyway, Nancy told me about Freckles's situation only a short drive away from me. I was able to call Freckles's family. They were nice enough to bring her to a "half-way" point where I could meet her. Her super personality shone right from the start. She came right over to me, sat on my lap, and looked up at me as if to say, "Here I am! Let's go home now." To make the story short, on Nov. 13, 2000, Freckles flew home with me on the airplane -- My special new feline friend, and someone to remember my step-dad by.

Freckles (Tabitha) is a brown patched tabby Devon Rex, born May 23, 2000. Her registration certificate lists her as "Rexellent Fancifreckles of Rex-N-FX". When Freckles came to our family, we tried out various names for her. My sister mentioned "Tabitha", and that's the name that stuck.

Tabitha is a sweetheart of a kitten. She won all of us over at the start... well, almost all. It took a few weeks for Cleo to adjust to having a kitten in the house. But, now both cats are buddies and love to romp and play together. Tabitha is definately a "people cat". She loves to run and pounce and play with us and her toys, while being gentle at the same time--not biting or scratching people. When it's naptime, she likes to curl up on someone's lap (usually mine). She sleeps in the bedroom with us--sometimes on the quilt, and sometimes right next to me under the covers. She likes to explore the nooks and crannies, and know what her family is up to. She often follows me to the bathroom in the morning, and sits on the tub (between the shower curtains) while I shower. If I'm at the computer, she's usually on my lap or sitting on top of the monitor. She seems to be sensitive to how people around her are feeling. We love her soft wavy hair, too. (I espcially like how I can hold her, even up to my face, and not end up with cat hair all over me.) When I count my many blessings, I consider Tabitha to be one of them.
